Document Type
Select a Document Type filter to display references that match that type.
For example, select Patent to display the 9,066 patent references.
Click View All to display all of the available document types.
Substance Role
Substance Roles: In reference results, roles linked to the substances searched by name, CAS RN, or structure. Also see Super Roles and Roles and Advanced Role Descriptions.
Select a Substance Role filter to display the references that describe the searched substance(s) in that role.
Note: This filter is only available if at least one of your search terms is a recognized substance with a CAS Registry Number.
For example, select Process to display the 3,831 references that address the processing of their indexed substance(s).
Click View All to display all of the available substance roles.
Language
Select a Language filter to display the references published in that language.
For example, select German to display the 797 references published in German.
Click View All to display all of the available languages.
Publication Year
Publication Year displays the range of publication years for all references in the result set. To specify a range of publication years, enter a beginning year in the "No Min" field and an ending year in the "No Max" field, and then click the Apply button.
The specified range of years is highlighted in the bar graph, and the references screen displays only those references in that range. To display the specified range in a larger pop-up window, click View Larger. To clear the date range, click Reset.
The larger popup window displays the specified range of years highlighted in the bar graph, along with sliders that allow you modify the range and then click the Apply button to revise it. The number of references in the selected range is displayed in parentheses.
Author
Select an Author filter to display the references published by that author.
For example, select Barcelo, Damia to display the 80 references published by that author.
Click View All to display all available authors and to select alternate spellings.
Select Alternate Spellings
To ensure you see the most comprehensive list of references by particular author, first click View All under the Author filter.
In the Author window, click the Search tab. Note: If you selected any name(s) before clicking View All, they will already be selected.
Enter the author's last name in the Author Name field, and then click the Search button.
In the results, select the additional or alternate spellings of the author's name, and then click the Apply button.
The additional spellings selected appear under the Author filter.
Organization
Select an Organization filter to display the references associated with that organization. Click View All to display all available organizations.
Depending on the document type, the options that display are different:
Journal/Review/Clinical Trial/Conference: The organization is typically the university or company associated with the author.
Patent: The organization is the patent assignee.
Publication Name
Select a Publication Name filter to display the references from that publication. Click View All to display all available publication names.
Depending on the document type, the options that display are different:
Journal/Review/Clinical Trial/Conference: The publication name is the journal name/source.
Patent: The publication name is the patent source.
Concept
Concepts are finding aids added to reference when it is indexed.
Select a Concept filter to display references associated with that concept.
For example, in the results for a general reference search of "ibuprofen," filtering by the concept "Anti-inflammatory agents" displays references associated with the concept even if the term itself does not appear in the result record.
MEDLINE® subject headings are also included in the Concept filter.
CAS Solutions
Select the CAS Solutions filter to display those results using CAS' Analytical Methods.
Note: Formulus® subscribers will also see the option to filter by this CAS Solution to display references with available Formulus content.
Analytical Methods
Click a linked CAS Method Number to open the page in Analytical Methods.
Bioactivity Data
Bioactivity Data appears where there are results with bioactivity data in the currently displayed result set.
For example, select Structure Activity Relationships to see the 29 results with formulations with SAR data.
Formulation Purpose
Formulation Purpose appears where there is formulation content in the currently displayed result set.
For example, select Drug delivery systems to see the 738 results with formulations with that purpose.
Click View All to display all of the available formulation purposes.
The below Formulations section from a filtered result shows the selected formulation purpose.
Database
Select a Database filter to display the references with information from that database.
For example, select MEDLINE to display the 21,000 references with content from that database.
CA Section
Select a CA Section filter to display the references that are categorized under that particular title.
For example, select Pharmacology to display the 8,873 references categorized under that CA Section title.
Click View All to display all of the available CA Section titles.
Search Within Results
The Search Within Results feature searches for keywords within the title, abstract, and indexing.
To search within the reference results for a specific keyword, enter the term in the search field, and then click the Search button.
Note: There is a 200-character limit. However, we recommend searching a maximum of six terms at a time to help keep the results more clear. Up to three “Search Within” refinements can be stacked at a time, with an implied AND between these stacked refinements.
The filtered results highlight the Search Within Results term in addition to the original search term. To remove the filter, click the x next to the term.
