No Search Type Required

With New Beta Search, you don't need to select a search type (Substances, Reactions, References, Suppliers); just enter your query and execute the search. CAS SciFinder interprets the query, searches accordingly, and displays the results.

The relevant information based on your query along with suggestions displays on the All results tab or the appropriate result-type tab. You may still browse individual result types by clicking each tab.

Direct Search and Result Display

From the home page/All tab in results, search for the following information and have it prominently displayed on the results page.

Property Searching

Search for a substance's physical, experimental, and predicted properties using simple keywords, with or without Boolean operators, to natural language.

Example queries:

  • what is the glass transition point of PMMA
  • boiling point of 79094
  • benoxaprofen median lethal dose

Experimental Spectra Searching

Similar to property searching, you can now search for experimental spectra data.

Examples queries:

  • ibuprofen carbon nmr
  • spectra of benzene
  • Visible Absorption Spectrum of CH2Cl2

GHS Hazard Tables and Regulatory Lists

CAS SciFinder now supports the display of GHS hazard tables and regulatory lists right on the results page.

Example queries:

  • GHS data for toluene
  • where can I find the regulation information on sulfur dioxide
  • how hazardous is the chemical nitrogen dioxide

Supplier Name Searching

Search for a specific supplier's name to find commercially available substances. You must use the supplier's exact, full name.

Reaction Natural Language Searching

Search for a reaction using natural language phrasing.

Example queries:

  • What can I synthesize with Fmoc-Gly-OH and iron catalyst?
  • Chromium dichloride catalyzed Nozaki-Hiyama-Kishi reactions

Reaction Procedure Searching

Search for procedures/synthetic methods for a given reaction using natural language or CAS reaction number.

Example queries:

  • how to synthesize benzenamine, 3-methoxy- with copper catalyst
  • protocols to make toluene catalyzed by copper
