Substances and Their Properties

Search for a substance by property or a substance's physical, experimental, and predicted properties using simple keywords, with or without Boolean operators, and natural language.

Example queries:

  • amines with boiling point <100
  • what is the glass transition point of PMMA
  • boiling point of 79094
  • benoxaprofen median lethal dose
  • ketones with H acceptors >2
  • acids with pKa <0.5

Property Range

Search for substances using a value or range of values for a single property.

  • Acceptable values:
    • A particular value (e.g., 53, fifty three)
    • A bounded range of values using symbols or description (e.g., 53-72, between 53 and 75)
    • An unbounded range of values using symbols or description (e.g., >53, <53, >=53, <=53, greater than 53)
    • Positive, negative, and decimal values (53, -53, 53.1)
    • Values in scientific notation (1.218E-4, 1.218e-4, 1.218x10^-4)
  • You can provide units or not:
    • If you provide units, the system identifies them as units and includes them in the output.
    • If you not provide units, the system will not output units. Note: The percent sign (%) is considered a unit.
  • You can specify that you are searching for substances within a single particular substance group or functional group.

Query Examples:

  • materials with young's modulus between 10-100
  • substances that self-ignite over 70 F
  • compounds with melting point between 114.6-115.5 degrees C

Spectra Data

Query Examples:

  • ibuprofen carbon nmr
  • spectra of benzene
  • 51234-28-7 spectra
  • Visible Absorption Spectrum of CH2Cl2

Hazard, Safety, and Regulatory Information

GHS Hazard Tables and Regulatory Lists

CAS SciFinder now supports the display of GHS hazard tables and regulatory lists right on the results page.

Query Examples:

  • GHS data for toluene
  • where can I find the regulation information on sulfur dioxide
  • how hazardous is the chemical nitrogen dioxide
  • safety regulations for chlorine

Pricing Information

Price of a Substance

Search for the price of a substance by name, registry number, or molecular formula using natural language.

Query Examples:

  • benzene cost
  • cost of 51234-28-7
  • price of benzene
  • how much does benzene cost
  • how much does NH3 cost

Suppliers of a Given Substance

Search for suppliers of a specified substance using natural language and traditional keywords.

Query Examples:

  • who sells acetone
  • where to buy triostin a
  • source for 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene
  • suppliers of ergine
  • online vendors for cyrene

Supplier Name Searching

Search for a specific supplier's name to find commercially available substances. You must use the supplier's exact, full name.

Reactions

Search for a reaction using natural language phrasing.

Query Examples:

  • Water as a solvent for synthesis of toluene
  • What can I synthesize with Fmoc-Gly-OH and iron catalyst?
  • Chromium dichloride catalyzed Nozaki-Hiyama-Kishi reactions

Reaction Procedure Searching

Search for procedures/synthetic methods for a given reaction using natural language or CAS reaction number.

Query Examples:

  • how to synthesize benzenamine, 3-methoxy- with copper catalyst
  • protocols to make toluene catalyzed by copper
  • how to make ibuprofen
  • suzuki coupling procedures

Reactions by Yield

Search for reactions with specific yields or yield ranges through natural language.

Query Examples:

  • synthesis of ibuprofen with 80-86% yield with pdcl2 catalyst
  • Water as a solvent for synthesis of toluene with high yield
  • Michael addition yield = 80
