Using a combination of Advanced Search Fields and the Author filter, you may find references by a particular author. In the following example, we want to find any references by Chi-Ju Hsiao.
- Select the References search type.
- Enter the author’s name (starting with the last name) in the Author Name field. As you enter text, you can also select one of the suggestions that appear.

Click the
icon. On the References page, you will see matching author names highlighted.
If you search a last, first/middle name, matching results will have the first/middle name or initial letters of the first/middle name.
Example: Smith, Peter will return results from Smith, Peter and Smith, P. L.If you search a last name with a first/middle name that is an initial, matching results will have the first/middle initial and any first/middle name starting with the initial.
Example: Smith, P will return Smith, P.; Smith, Peter; Smith, Patrick J.; and Smith, Pamela A.Note: If you search a hyphenated first name (e.g., Chi-Ju), matching results will have the hyphenated first name or the initial letter of the hyphenated last name.
Example: Hsiao, Chi-Ju will return Hsiao, C.K; Hsiao, C C; and Hsiao, Chi-Ju, resulting in 405 results. - Click View All under the Author filter.
- In the Author window, click the Alphanumeric tab.
- Click the tab for the first letter of the author's last name (in our example, Hsiao).
- Select the author's name, and then click the Apply button.
Instead of seeing 405 references from all matches, we are now seeing just the 6 reference results with Chi-Ju Hsiao.
