Using a Structure in Your Search

To use a structure in your search, you must name, draw, or import a structure, select a search type, and then click the OK button.

Note: If you are searching a structure and text, the search type you select in CAS Draw overrides any SearchSense query/result intention based on the text.

Name a Structure

Enter a systematic (IUPAC) chemical name, CAS Registry Number, SMILES, or InChI string, and then click the Add to Editor icon.

Draw a Structure

In CAS SciFinder, you may use the CAS Draw and ChemDoodle structure editors to draw structure images for use as queries. Using either of these tools, you may draw structures with repeating groups, R-groups, and variable attachment points.

Import a Structure

You may also import a .cxf or .mol structure file into CAS Draw and ChemDoodle.

Note: You can also import a SMILES string from ChemDraw into CAS Draw.
